Disclosure & Affiliate Policy

Last updated: October 2026

The Year of April is an independent travel and culture publication created by April Jackson, known online as April Jay. This site shares travel stories, destination guides, cultural discoveries, and recommendations inspired by my curiosity about how places and cultures connect.

Creating this work takes time, research, travel, and resources. I may earn income through affiliate links, sponsored content, advertising, hosted experiences, gifted products, and brand or destination partnerships. This page explains how those relationships work.

Some articles, guides, and other content contain affiliate links. When you click one of these links and make a qualifying purchase or booking, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate commissions help support The Year of April and allow me to continue creating travel stories and useful destination resources.

I aim to share recommendations that are relevant to my audience. When I have personally experienced a place, product, or service, I will distinguish that firsthand experience from information gathered through research or trusted sources.

Affiliate relationships may influence which products or services I choose to feature, but they do not guarantee a positive review or endorsement.

If I participate in Amazon Associates, I will include the required disclosure: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.”

The Year of April may work with businesses, tourism boards, destinations, hotels, restaurants, attractions, and other brands through paid partnerships and advertising.

These collaborations may include sponsored articles, destination guides, featured business listings, social media content, photography, videos, advertising placements, hosted experiences, and other agreed promotional work.

When content or a placement is sponsored, paid for, or otherwise materially connected to a business relationship, I will disclose that relationship clearly and in a location readers can readily notice. Depending on the format, labels may include “Sponsored,” “Paid Partnership,” “Advertisement,” or another clear description of the relationship.

I may also receive complimentary products, hosted stays, discounted experiences, or other benefits. When these are relevant to the content, I will disclose them.

A paid partnership does not mean that every statement in the content is an independent review, nor does it guarantee a positive opinion. I aim to represent my experiences and the information available to me honestly.

Editorial approach

The Year of April combines personal experiences, research, cultural context, and discoveries shared by trusted local sources.

I aim to distinguish firsthand experiences from researched information and to credit sources and people whose knowledge helps inform a story.

Sponsored content and independent editorial recommendations are not the same thing. Paid features are identified so readers can understand the context in which a business, destination, product, or experience appears.

I reserve the right to present information accurately and to avoid claims I cannot reasonably support.

Accuracy and updates

Businesses change, locations move, opening hours shift, and prices and policies are updated. I make reasonable efforts to keep published guides and articles current, but I cannot guarantee that every detail will remain accurate indefinitely.

Please verify important information directly with the relevant business or destination before making plans. If you notice an error, I welcome corrections.

Questions

Questions about affiliate links, sponsorships, advertising, or other partnerships are welcome.
